OBITUARY.
HON. JOHN FISHER. (rr.ES3 ASSOCIATION TELEGS.'.iI.'> CAMBRIDGE, January 13. 'lhe Hon. John Fisher, one of the best-known pioneers in Waikato, died tins morning at his home in Pukerimu, where he resided continuously for 71 years. He has been associated with practically every local body and good object in "the district, and was a memi.jr of the Legislative Council from ll.'li until 1921. He leaves a widow, {[•:>: sons, and three daughters, all resident in the district. The Hon. Mr Fisher, who wag born in \vr»hire in 1837, arrived in New Zealand in 185 G. and took up farming at Ofahuhu. He served in Colonel Nixon's Royal Cavalry, and was awarded the New Zealand medal. He was a member ot the Pukekura Road Board, president of the Waikato A. ;in;l P. Association, and a membor of the first Waipa County Council. Sir John Scott Keltic, a former presi-. dont of the Geographical Section of _the British Association, is dead, aged 87. [Sir John Scott Keltie was-born at Dundee in IS4O, and educated in Perth, and at the Edinburgh University. After serving on the staffs of several geographical and scientific publications, he became secretary of the Royal Geographical Society in 1892, a position which he held till 1913. He has written largely on scientific, and historical subjects, and has been editor of the Statesman's Year Book since ISBO.]
