PERSONAL. (SPECIAL TO THB FUSS.) GREYMOUTH, January iS. Mr W. B. McCulloch, who succeeds Mr C. Gair as Government Audit Inspector, Greymjuth, arrived this afternoon from Wellington. Mrs Mclntyre arrived from Coalgatc this afternoon, and is the gue3t of Mrs Kennedy, Guinness street. Mr and Mrs Charles Spoight and daughter, of Duucdiu, who have been visiting Blenheim and Nelson, are exP -ted to arrive in Greymouth to-mor-row, proceeding to South Wcstlnnd the following day. Mr H. M. Coulson, who has been visitin- Christehurdi, returned to Hokitika this afternoon. Mrs Thomas, wifo of Mr F. W. Thomas, of the Public Works Department, has left the Greymouth Hospital after a long illness. Messrs D. McKay and T. Eobinson, who have been on a trip to tho Chatham Islands, returned to-day to Greymouth. Messrs W. G. and B. E. Nosworthy, Sydney, who have been on a visit to the West Coast, will leave to-morrow for Nelson, Mrs J. S. Robertson, Greymouth, is visiting Mr and Mrs F. Hill, Hinds. Mrs Charles Smith, of Cashmere Hills, Christchurch, is visiting Greymouth and South Westland. Mr P. Gillon, headmaster at the BewaJiui School, left to-day for a holiday in Wellington. Miss C. Barry, Auckland, arrived this afternoon on a visit to her sister, Mrs B. T. Bush, Chapel streot. Nurse Bishop, who was for many years attached t the Eewa Hospital, Greymouth, and who has been nursing in Africa for the past four years, will arrive in Sydney by tho Medic on January 29th. She is expected to arrive in Auckland early in February to spend a holiday with her parents, Mr and Mrs James Bishop. Mr Arthur Parfitt, of the Postal Department, Wellington, and Mrs Parfitt, who have been spending a holiday as tho guests of Mrs 0. Parfitt, Tainui street, returned this morning. Mr and Mrs George Gilmour (Wellington) arrived by to-day's express, and are tho guests of Mrs Joseph McLean, Sawyers Creek road. Dr. C. W. Ee'akes, of the Agricultural Department, arrived this afternoon from Christchurch. During his visit to the Coast Dr. Eeakea will meet the variouß officers of the Department, and to-morrow he will visit the Waimaunga State Farm, when he will be accompanied by Mr C. Dalgliesh, Fields Instructor, and Mr C. Neville, Stock Inspector. Dr. Eeakes will leave on Saturday for Christchurch. Young Man Before Court. A young man named Alexander Gray, residing at Blackball, pleaded guilty this morning, befo.re Mr W. Meldrum, S.M., to stealing a wallet containing the sum of £l3 Os 3d, belonging to Thomas Clark, at Blackball. On Monday the theft was committed while Gray was under the influence of liquor. The police stated tho sum of £5 had been recovered. His Worship ordered the balance (£8 Os 3d) to be paid within a month. Gray was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence within six months if called upon. Sawmill Employe* Injured. An employee of the Omoto Sawmilling Company named Jack Watson yesterday had a finger badly crushed by a rolling log. The injury necessitated the insertion of several stitches. Plunket Society, The monthly meeting of the Greymouth branch of the Plunket Society was attended by Mesdames O'Brien (in the chair), McLean, Seddon, Garde, A,shby, Denton, and Miss Br idwood. Mrs F. M. Dennehy was grautod leave of absence for some months. Nurse spring reported as follows: Visits to homes: New cases 14, old cases 123; visits to office: adults 133, babies 122; out-stations: visits to homes, new cases 12, old cases 53; visits to office, adults 8, babies 7. During the month two visits were paid to Hokitika, two t' Eunanga, two to Paroa, four to Kamaka, and one each to Eecfton, Otira, and Brunner.The Weather. Heavy rain was experienced all over tho Wes't Coast last night. Tho rainfall registered a. Greymouth for tho twentyfour hours prior to 9 o,'clock this morning totalled 120 points. With the exception'of a few showers very little rain fell to-day, but a south-wostcrly galo has been raging throughout the day, and tlic climatic conditions arc decidedly wintry. Slip on Eailway. Following last night's rain, a slip occurred on tho Rewanui line, which prevented the usual morning train service from running. The line was cleared shortly before noon, and normal traffic was resumed. Railway Housing Scheme. It is stated that the Eailway Department proposes to erect ten houses on tho railway reserve at Karoro for the acommodation of the Department's employees. Sheep for Canterbury. A rake of ten trucks of sheep, the first consignment of a lot of about 50 trucks, will be rai'ed from Ross to Canterbury to-morrow morning. Brunner Collieries, Ltd. At a meeting of tho directorate of the Brunner Colliery, Ltd., the former resolution to increase the capital of the company from £30,000 to £IOO,OOO was confirmed. The meeting was attended by Mr Jas. Bishop, consulting engineer to the' company, and Mr G. Stitt, Auckland representative on the directorate. Mr Bishop paid a tribute to the successful efforts of the manager (Mr Whittlestonc) in the work of unwntering the mine, and also at the progress made in development operations. The meeting unanimously decided to continue the development of the mine, with a view to producing coal for the market as early as possible. Messrs Bishop and Stitt visited the Wallsond mine this afternoon, and expressed satisfaction at the general progress made for early eoal production.
