LAWN TENNIS.

CANTERBURY CHAMPIONSHIPS. AT WILDING PARK. Starting on January 20th and continuing until January 2-nd, tho annual provincial championships of the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association will be played at Wilding Turk, where new grass courts have been prepared. Large entries have been received in all events, and the presence of the New South Wales touring team, which is expected to arrive here on Tuesday, will create added interest to the'tournament. RANKING MATCHES. On Wednesday T. W. Patterson (challenger) defeated P. G. Greenwood, 6-3, 2-6, 6-3, for sixth placo on the Canterbury ranking list. It ivas a closely-contested match, although Greenwood tired in the third set. Patterson was very sound from the back of the court, and frequently lobbed his opponent back, and it was these tactics that caused Greenwood to tire. y Another ladder match, was that between C. Angas (challenger) and R. Browning for eighth place. Angas at no time was extended, and won easily in two sets. The scores were 6-2, 6-3. He drove soundly from both courts, and at the not volleyed crisply and accurately. ■N.S.W. V. N.Z. MATCHES AT WELLINGTON. [THE PEESS Special Service,] WELLINGTON, January 13.
