AFTER TWO YEARS.
PORTMANTEAU THIEF CAUGHT. [THE PKESS Special Service.] AUCKLAND, January 12. After a lapse of over two years a charge of stealing a portmanteau and contents of a total value of £42 was admitted in tho Police Court to-day by Kdward Kicrnan, aged 60. The police stated the offence took place in May, 1924, when the accused was employed as a gardener at King's College. He took a portmanteau from another employee's hut and extracted money from the portmanteau. "He had been out of town for two years, and had only recently come back when we picked him up," said a detective, and accused was admitted to probation for two years, and ordered to make restitution of £32 10s.
