Arthur John 3, aged 17 years, was remanded to Leeston on a charge of breaking and entering the dwelling of Jame3 Skimmings and etealing a waistcoat, valued nt 30e. Bail was allowed, eelf in £SO and tv.o sureties of £25 each. ATTEMPTED SUICIDE. Donald Sutherland, aged 'lB yeara, pleaded guilty to a charge that, on January 7th, at Rakaia, ho attempted to commit suicido by poisoning. Sub-Inspector Malhcw said that, on the day in question accused had been crying out that, ho was dying. A constable went out and found him in a bad way. He had soaked Gome poisoned wheat in a bottle of beer, and then drank tho contents. Ho had just returned from Australia, wheTe ho had been living for Beven years. He had lost money at tho races, and becamo depressed. Sutherland wa3 convicted and discharged. THREE CHARGES. Adolph.ua Ourline, aged 31 years, pleaded guilty to a breach of his prohibition order, and not guilty to charges that by incurring a, liability for £3 7s 6d to Bing, Harris and Co., and a liability to Benjamins, Ltd., for .£1 Bs, did obtain credit by fraud. Accused asked that ho be remanded, eo that he might have tho opportunity of consulting a Golicitor. A remand until January IStb was granted. Chief-Detectivo Lewis said that accused was a married man with five children, and if ho wa3 allowed bail it would be beneficial to his family, who, it was alleged, were starving. * On the first charge Curlins was fined £3, in default 14 days' imprisonment. On the other charges, bail was allowed, self in £SO, a condition heing that accused reports to the polico daily.
