Sub-Inspector Malhcw said that, on the day in question accused had been crying out that, ho was dying. A constable went out and found him in a bad way. He had soaked Gome poisoned wheat in a bottle of beer, and then drank tho contents. Ho had just returned from Australia, wheTe ho had been living for Beven years. Chief-Detectivo Lewis said that accused was a married man with five children, and if ho wa3 allowed bail it would be beneficial to his family, who, it was alleged, were starving. * On the first charge Curlins was fined £3, in default 14 days' imprisonment. On the other charges, bail was allowed, self in £SO, a condition heing that accused reports to the polico daily.
