Miss A. Bambridge returned fo Temuka on Tuesday from a holiday in the south.

Miss A. McClintock (Masterton) is visiting her sister, Miss J. McClintock (Temuka). Miss M. Moore (Christchurch) is spending a holiday in Temuka. Nurse Egglcton lias gone on a motor tour through Marlborough, Nelson, and the West Coast.

Miss Hamilton (Kangiora) is the 1 guest of Miss Brown, Temuka. Miss Effie Bryan has returned from a holiday spent in Ashburton. Mr L. Thoumine (Sydney), who has been spending a few days with his relatives, Mr and Mrs D. Bryan, Gammock street, returned north on Thursday. Mr A. Hclem, who has been spending a short holiday in Temuka and Ashburton, has returned to Greymouth. Misses M. and N. Mathieson, of Itoslyn, Dunedin, arc visiting their cousins the Misses Mathieson, of Opihi Terrace, Temuka. A Hot Day. Tuesday was the hottest day experienced in Temuka this summer, !)4 degrees being registered iu the shade. As a result bathers in the Temuka river were present iu large force especially during the forenoon, and the pools near tho town resembled a popular seaside resort. It is interesting to note that ono of the hottest days recorded in Temuka was January (ith, 1880, when the thermometer registered 125 degrees in the sun and 102 degrees in the shade. New Band Conductor. A special meeting of the committee of the Temuka Municipal Band was held in the band room on Tuesday evening, for the purpose of appointing a successor to Mr B. E. Cumming. There were present: Tho Mayor (Mr G. B. Cartwright), Messrs T. Gunnion, W. F.Evans, C. Teale, S. Cross, and C. Hill, and the secretary, Mr G. H. Clements. After a discussion in committee the Mayor announced to the bandsmen that they were fortunate to obtain the s;rvices of Mr A. Allan (Timaru) as the new conductor. Mr Allan had expressed his willingness to sign on for two years thus preventing any likelihood of their losing their conductor after a month or two. Mr Allan had stated that the band., with good leadership and regular attendance on the part of tho players, should be quite able to play in tho Domain or the town within three months. Mr Allan was of the opinion, said the Mayor, that the Temuka Band should be sufficiently advanced to warrant their taking part in the Band Contest to be held at Temuka at the end of 1927. WAIMATE. The chutes ordered by the Borough ouncil for children's amusement in the various reserves aro to leave Auckland on January Bth, and Mr E. J. Brittain, from whom the chutes were ordered, has advised the Council that he will visit the town for the purpose of erecting them. Anglers are meeting with good sport at tho Waitakj river nt present, fishing at tho mouth, Mr K. Sutherland landed no fewer than ten fish, including some fair-sized trout, the total weight being 401b* Several other fishermen had equally as good results, and fish i were landed willing; from 101b .to' J 161b. Mr A. Gihu, of Pareora, caught a large trout, which was in exceptionally good condition. The bathers in the VVaihao river at MeCulloch's Bridge on Wunday afternoon witnessed-what might have resulted in a fatality had it not been for the promptitude of a plucky young lidy in diving in and making her way quickly to a distressed lady bather. A young man walking along the bank, upon hearing the screams, also commenced to swim to the rescue, but his assistance was not required, as the young lady, having reached the distressed woman, found the water was only neck deep.
