AUCTIONS- I H. MATSON AND CO. ' MATSON and CO. REPORT OX THE ADDINGTON MARKET AS VOL-\ STOKE SHEEP. Particular interest was shown for »1. classes of store sheep to-day. Tho genera cry being: What can we buy for our lae&l There ii feed to burn in practically every district, and a larec attendance of buyers keenly competed, especially for store lambs, vith tho result that the demand was 111 excess of the supply, and an exceptionally gi'od sale resulted. Wo sold one line of all store ewe lambs by English Leicester ranis from halfbrod ewe* ut 22 s 7d, wether lambs out of the same lino made "Jls 2d. Practically everv pen of lambs that were forward were over' IPs. The market was bare of vethcrs. and vendors who were lucky enough to haw tils class in met with an excellent sale, but this is reallv n<j criterion ari to the future, tut we really think that with all classes of storo shftp it is not a question of buying them any cheaper. The feed is in the country, and farmers will buy sheep. It lookß to lis as though those who have stores to fell ■will be assured of a good return by forwarder their consignments to this ir.arkct. Several small consignments of North Island ewes of good standard were yarded, practically all of them bein.g four and six-tooth. Older sheep were not in demand, and the young sheep sold quite well, but the future alone can tell whether to-day's purchases will prove to be worth ilm money. Small two-tooth halfbred ewes off native feed made uls lOd; i big, heavy four ami six-tooth Homney ewes made 30s. Two or three lines o;' ewes and lambs were forward, and ono line of soundmonth ewes in good condition, with k ,)( «1 lambs r.t foot, made 21? ad, nil counted, and another line of aged ewes, with good lambs a*, foot made I<H. The 1 buying power was very strong right to the finish, and to-day's market was oue of the best so far we have tad this year. FOB HEST liKSnr.TP f'ONSIGN YOUK STOCK TO If. MATSO-V and CO.. ADDINGTON. I IAT cUJJiEP. | There was a similar yarding in this department to last week, but included a larger proportion of ewes. At tho satno time there ■wero several outstanding lines of wethers,, including ono especially fine line from as far south as Invcrcargill. The market opened firm at last week's prices, but as the sale progressed It gradually hardened. Towards the end, when butchers for the most part had filled their requirements, the same keenness as in the opening stages was not so apparent, and closing prices wore hardly up to opening rates. However, the sale all round roust be considered a good one, and we should t»y. on the whole, showed an average rise of about Is a head on last week. Exporters were in evidence throughout the sale, but as prices were evidently above schodule rates thoy were not operating to any great extent. Some of our best sales wero:—On account ef Mr Geo. Arres (Waikari), wethers to 29s Id; Mr W. J. fikurr (Bennetts), wethers to 30s Id; Mr J. K. Belcher (Kirweo), wethers to 29s Id; Mr T. Mitchell (Lanriston). wethers to 28s 4d; Mr Jos. Thero was a total entry of 2511 lambs, of which H. Watson and Co.'s share was 760. The market opened up showing an advance on last week's rates, and continued so throughout Exporters were keen throughwit, and prime freezing lambs up to 26!b, in our opinion, brought fully 9d per lb overall, and in eoiuo case.* more. Light and unfinished lambs were comfoted for by graziers, and, as evidencod by tha sales made in tho aloro pons, there scorns to be sui excellent demand for lamba for rape, •with the .result that the lighter sorts were up la to Is 6d per head. Heavy butchers' lambs ware keonly competed for, 29s 7d being reached. This class shows a rise of fully Is per head above last wrck's rates. Our principal sales were on behalf of: TV.
