business building destroyed. (I'RBSS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) HASTINGS, January 12. Last night a large brick building in liussell street, owned by Mr 0111 Blake, of Hastings, and oecupied y A. E. Uullen and Co., auctioneers, was burned to; a shell. A brick wall prevented the lire connecting with Joe Tos's grocery shop next door. Bullen went into an incubating room to trim lamps,, and the match burning his finger 3, he threw it away, when the cocoanut matting caught fire. In Irving to put this out with a sack, lie upset an incubator lamp, which set fire to flax, cocoanut matting, and other inflammable material, the flamcf. spreading swiftly. Uullcn niaclo his escape. Contents valued at about £SOO were destroyed,, besides goods awaiting sale and owned by clients. ..The upper floor, occupied by the National Service Club as a social hall. was also destroyed, wifcli furniture and fittings valued at about £2OO. Bnllen's insurance was £SOO on stock "and £250 on the incubators and accessories. There was also a policy If £ISOO on the building. The National Service Cluh's loss is covered by insurance.
