REPRESENTATIVE MATCH.

BOYS' ASSOCIATION V. NORTH

CANTERBURY.

Yesterday an interesting gsmo was played between a Canterbury Boys' Cricket Association team (tinder 15) and a North Canterbury junior side. The match took place at tho Ucspital Corner ground, the Boys' Association team consisting of thirteen playeis.

The Boys' Association won tho toss, and JI. K. Ji: Watson elected to field. The North Canterbury batsmen, who are used to concrete wickets, found the grass strange to thorn, and their commencement was disastrous, the first six wickets realising only 15 runs. An improvement now took place, Devlin and P. Bennett batting confidently. At 39, however, the latter litted ons from Mcßae to square-leg, where Gray held the catch. Tile batsmau had scored a neat 15. Cherry did not last long, and Chambers joined Devlin. The scoring elowed down, but the total still mounted, and 50 was passed after an hour's piny. Devlin still shaped confidently, but after notching an invaluable 21, was caught and bowled by Gray. Two runs later Chambers fell a victim to Rimmcr, and the innings closed for 58 runs. The most successful bowler for tha Boys' Association wis D. A. N. Mcßae, who, sending up a left-hand swinger, at one time had taken four wickets for 2 runs, his final figutcs being six for 26.

Tho local team commenced batting after the luncheon adjournment, but lost Gronfell early, G. Hales, who was bowling, taking a brilliant one-handed catch over his head. The rate of scoring was rather slow, but runs camo surely, and 26 was reached before Gray was bowled in playing forward to P. Bennett. Watson joined Macartney, and tho scoring briskened, 42 coming up bofore Macartney was bowled by a slow one from Devlin. O'Brien came in, but when 55 was reached, a "rot" set in, O'Brien, Watson, and Mcßae going in close succession. Rimmcr and Poake were tho next batsmen, and, after a period of quiet play, the former commenced to hit out, and runs mounted quickly. The century was hoisted after 70 minutes' batting, but 25 runs later Pcake was caught behind the stumps off Devlin's bowling. Rimmer continued batting until the total was 142. when he retired, after contributing a brisk half-cen-tury. Puddle and Allsopp both hit out, but the remaining batsmen did not show much confidence, and the innings closed for IGI runs.

North Canterbury opened their second innings with Scott and Chambers, and al-. though runn came fairly briskly, Chambers was caught and bowled by Leverett when tho total was 13. Ten rung later Rimmer got Scott, who had contributed s. vigorous 14. Dovlin, who was again shaping; nicely, was joined by McConnell, and runs continued to come quickly. McNish replaced Leverett, and the change proved effective, tho first ball of his second over accounting for McConnell. Soon afterwards Devlin retired, in order to catch his train, and K. Bonnett waa bowled immediately afterwards by Rimmer. McNiah now got Cherry and Hales in one over, whilst shortly aftenvards H. Bennett and P. Bennett also fell victims to the same bowler, and nine wickets were down for 69 runs. D. Grant and A. Cherry, who had replaced two of the other players, now became associated, and a good last-wicket partnership brought tho total to Bt, when Cherry wae bowled by Gray. Grant had batted attractively for 16 not out. McNish bowled very nicely, taking live wic&eta for 28 runs for the Boys Association, who won the match by an innings and 22 runs:— Detailed scores:—
