SURVEYING STATE FORESTS WORK FOR AERODROME STAFF. It is expected that very shortly Wigrara Aerodrome pilots will carry out extetaaive photographia land surveys for the Forestry Department. The majority of the forest areas to be surveyed comprise very wild and rough country, and to carry out the surveys on the ground would entail lengthy and tedious work. The combination of camera and aeroplane has brought eminently satisfactory results wherever it has been operated, and it iB expected to be quite successful in New Zealand. It was intended to make aerial surveys of the forest areas in the Hanmer district yesterday, but the conditions were unsuitable for the work in spite of the fact that, from the ground, the weather appeared to bo all that could be desired. For the paßt six weeks there has not been a favourable day for carrying out the work, but the Hanmer survey will probably bo put in hand to-day, weather and other conditions permitting. If to-day's work is successful big aerial survey operations will be carried out by the aerodrome men on behalf of the Forestry Department in the near future.
