He is the gentleman who committed a most audacious burglary i" j Auckland in 1911, when he broke into Kohn's jewellery, establishment, and stole a very large quantity of stuff. He went to America, and on being extradited received live years' hard labour, followed by*four years' reformative detention'!" 'said • Senior-Detective Hammond •at the Police Court this morning. Detective. Hammond was referring t° William Morgan (38) who appeared for sentence, having been convicted bv Mr F. K. Hunt. S.M., on Friday last on a charge of attempted theft from a passenger on a ferry boat. Gi:c thing in.'Morgan's favour, said Detective Hammond.'was that he had been working-hard for the nast four years. Accused was an Australian, who had -come to Auckland not .loii<i ago by the Maunganui. " '■'. fie comes here to steal, and'when he gets caught, wants.' to be allowed to return io Australia,'' said-the Senior-Detective. The-Magistrate sentenced Morgan to one :uo::tb°s imprisonment.
