BOROUGH COUNCILS.
SUMNER. A meeting of the Sumner Borough Council was held last evening, there being present the Mayor, Mr W. H. Nicholson, Crs. H. C, S. Jamieson, C. I. Dunham, A. H. Tatill, E. A. Johnson, P. C. Cooper, and B. J. Ager. The Standing Committee reported that metal had Been crushed and screenings had been carted to Clifton terrace, where a start had been made with repair work. Asphalt footpaths had been patched, and both sides o£ Grafton street and the path on the Main road opposite Clifton had been top-dressed. 4 new concrete floor had been put in the ladies' bathing shed on the beach, and the necessary drainage had been carried out. The building would be painted shortly. The sewer mains on Mulgan's Track and along Alexandra terrace were finished, and work had begun on Victoria terrace. When this was finished the circuit would be completed. Enquiries were being made with the view of taking over a sewer on TV est Clifton, which, with a small expenditure, would serve other houses in the same locality. Stone was being quarried for the protection of the Vstuary road between the cutting and Mr McLa-lan's house. The outfall creek had been grayed with kerosene To prevent the waste 'of water at the public supply at Scarborough, the engineer had boen instructed to install a spring tap. It was recommended that as a reply to an enquiry, the Heathcote County Council be informed that the Council was not prepared to pay W jjortey «< *« , ofi t of maintaining the Bridle Path road. The Public Works Department had given notice that the portion of the Morten Settlenent road in the borough was finished and wok now under the Council's control. It * "ecommended that the Life-Saving Club be informed that the Council regretted that it could not undertake the responsibility of maintaining the danger signs erected by he club but was willing to assist the club with' the labour. It was also recommended hat the plan of a sea-wall at Bedchffi, prepared by Cr. H. W. Harris for the Redcjiffs Burgesses' Association, be approved and forwarded to the Public Works Dttirtmnt. The report was received and adopted. Messrs Davie and Harris wrote concerning the subdivision of Mr Humphries s land, also forwarding a plan showing roads to be exempted from further widening. Mr Humphries requested that his new road be named "Ocean View terrace. purito"overs was accepted, subject to the work being according to specifications.
