WHAKATANE SCHOOL.
DESTROYED BY FIRE. (msss AsaoaiTios ' rthtaakit.) ' ' WHAKATANE, January, 10. The main building of the District High School'was destroyed by fire at two o'clock this morning. The fire had a good hold before the brigade. arrived,. and blazed furiously for a considerable time, lighting up most of the town.
The origin is a mystery, but incendiarism is .suspected. • ■• Portable classrooms nearby were saved by the brigade's efforts.
