Mrs Fred Taylor (St. Albans) accompanied by her two little daughters, is spending' a month's holiday with Mrs L. Wilkin, Eden terrace, Auckland. Mrs W. H. Cumbleton, accompanied by'her son and elder daughter, have returned to Christehurch after an extended trip to England and the Continent.

.Additional attractions at Saturday evening's cabaret at the Winter Garden, inaugurated by Mr Charles Aves and his international orchestfa, were two special ballets given by pupils of Miss Bessie Macdonald. The items were "The Persian" and a new jazz dance, tlic soloist ■in each being Miss Ada Rawson, who was. supported by the Misses Enid Lawson, Hilda Taylor, Peggy Patrick, Jsobel Harland, Pat .I'attersoh, and Gwen Anson. The young artists were accorded n splendid reception for their clever performance. The funeral of the late Mrs J. HBlackwell, M.B.E: (Kaiapoi) which took place at the Kaiapoi Public Cemetery on Saturday afternoon, was very largely attended. After a brief service at "Waihui," Charles street, the lengthy cortege proceeded' to the cemetery, where the sen-ice at the graveside was conducted by the Rev.. W. G. Sladc, M.A.j assisted by the Hon: L. M. Isitt. As an indication of the higll esteem in which the late Mrs Blackwell was held, many beautiful wreaths were received and'special arrangements were necessary for their conveyance to the cemetery.

Mr and Mrs Cecil Wood (Armagh street) have returned from a holiday visit to the Southern Lakes. Mrs J. Lambie has returned to Bryndwr after spending a short holiday with her daughter at Seatield. Miss C, M. Gillies, 8.A., of Timavu, lias been 'appointed to the staff of Wellington Girls' College.

Miss Nan Pike, who gave a clever performance of Eliza Doolittle, in Bernard Shaw's "Pygmalion," produced in Wellington last April by the National Repertory Theatre Society, has gone to Dunedin to join Joseph Cunningham's English Comedy Company.

Miss Shirtcliffc and Miss C. Morice (Wellington), who have been touring in Marlborough, arrived in Christchiirch from Wellington on Saturday. Mrs Read, president of the Sydney Women's Club, and her daughter arc touring New Zealand. They are at present visiting Mount Cook.

After an absence in Australia of several months, Miss Ena Stockley, the Neiv Zealand 100 yards ladies' swimming champion. 100 yards backstroke champion of Australia, and ICO yards free style champion of Australia, returned by the Marama to Auckland. Miss Stockley has come to her home town to take part in tho Auckland -swimming championships, which commence this week, and also the New Zealand championships, which open at Auckland on January 22nd. After arriving at Maungaturoto from Auckland by train at the end of last •neck, Lady Alice Fergusson and a party of friends motored to Marsd-3ii Point, where they boarded the Whangarei Harbour Board's launch Kumi and were taken out to Hen Island. There they will camp for about a week. The camp was pitched about a, fortnight ago under the supervision of Mr AV. M. Fraser, honorary curator of the islands. Lady Alice Fergusson, who is a keen naturalist, ■wishes to observe the fauna and bird life, some of which is indigenous Jo Hen Island, and is not found elsewhere, even on tho adjoining Chickens Island. Arrangements have also been made for fishing. ■ GIRL CITIZENS. The Conference of Girl Citizens at St. Andrew's College spent a most enjoyable and interesting week-end. On Saturday afternoon the girls held their sports meeting, which is one of the cup events competed for by all tho communities represented. The grounds were marked out by tho Recreation Committee under Mrs Montgomery's direction, and the races started at 2.30 p.m. There were team games, egg and spoon and ordinary races, while an obstacle race for older folks caused great amusement. The Palmerston North Community gained the highest total of points. The following are the results:--' 75yds—AVellinglon 1, Palmerston North 2 and 3.

In the evening a short World-Fel-lowship Pageant was staged on the lawn. Groups of girls were dressed in costumes of seven countries of the world, and each was pictured as bringing her gift to the spirit of the Y.W.C.A., receiving in return the joy of fellowship in the Association. After this the story-telling contest was continued, highest marks being awarded to the Dunedin Community. On Sunday morning the girls paraded in uniform to St. Mary's Church, Merivale. In the afternoon they were favoured with two delightful talks, one from Miss Law.on English Poetry and the other from Dr. G. Lester on the History of Painting. DIXIELAND. The weekly dance held in Dixieland on Saturday evening was again a great success. Over eighty couples danced to the music of Marston's Orchestra. The supper tables and lounge were decorated with sweet peafl, carnations, and palms.

(rKESS ASSOCIATION TELUGKAU.) AUCKLAND, January 9. Record-breaking swims by two girls, Misses Doris Magee and Sybil Brown, were performed yesterday. Miss Magce lowered Miss Farquhar's 300. yards intermediate record of 69 l-ssec to * 69sec. Miss Brown won the girls 50 yards handicap in 31 3-osec, which is an improvement of 4-osee on Miss L. Coutt s Dominion record of 32 2-ssec.

The records, however, cannot be officially recognised, as they were not established under record-breaking conditions.
