MR BRUCE.
TRIP THROUGH CANADA. (Br CABLE—J?BES3 ASSOCIATION— COPrBJGHT.) (AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLS ASSOCIATION.) (Received January 9th, 5.5 p.m.) OTTAWA, January 8. Although spending only twelve hours in /Winnipeg, Mr Bruce delivered speeches before the Canadian Club, inspected grain elevators, and informally discussed tho agricultural problem with members of the Government. His addresses stressed the importance of the part agriculture played in the national greatness of Canada and Australia, but pointed out that: "Man cannot live by bread alone." He indicated the responsibilities - of nationhood and outlined what Australia was doing to fulfil its responsibilities, particularly concerning defence. Mr Bruco and party were the guests of honour at a private dinner at Government House this evening, and then left immediately for Vancouver. There will bo no further stops till they arrive there. LOAN FOR AUSTRALIA. (AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLS ASSOCIATION.) NEW YOKE, January 7. Mr Bruce, speaking at the Industrial Club, Chicago, urged Americans to invest capital in Australia for their own sake, stating that America was the romance of the nineteenth century, but Australia would bo the romance of the twentieth.
Financial circles in Chicago are discussing the likelihood of Australia floating a large loan in the United States. It is rumoured in one quarter that Mr Bruce is conferring with the Morgan Company. It is estimated that the anticipated loan will be from six millions to ten millions sterling.
