SATURDAY WORK.

WATERSIDERS AND OVERTIME.

On Saturday, for the .first time for over 18 months, the watersiders at Lyttelton worked overtime ou a Saturday afternoon. The ferry steamer Wahine had four gangs working, and the Kurow had seven gangs. This is in accordance with tho agreement recently made by which the men agreed to work on Saturday afternoons on condition that a general increase of lsd per hour, with retrospective pay, was granted. A hitch occurred, however, when a call was made at 10.30 a.m. for gangs to start work on the Totara at 1 p.m., at which hour the vessel was expected. None of the watersiders accepted the call and the vessel remained idle. It is understood that the men took up the attitude that they should not be called upon to work overtime, unless they had been employed during tho morning.
