""lie Yiheent Jockey Club's Annual Meeting will be concluded to-day.
Nominations for events at the Victoria K.C. Autumn, Australian J.C. Autumn, and A.J.C. Warwick Farm Meetings close to-morrow. Acceptances are due to-day for the Ashburton County Racing Club's Summer Meeting. Our Reefton correspondent telegraphs as follows: —Prior to the start of the Cronadun Handicap at Reefton on Saturday Some Abbey appeared to be groggy, and after going about fifty yards in the race collapsed. An enquiry into the cause of the collapso of the inaro was adjourned. The near approach of the Ashburton Racing Club's Summer Meeting was responsible for some smart work at Riccarton on Saturday morning, when the plough and grass tracks provided excellent going. On the grass the following horses accomplished the principal work: —Master Clarence, six furlongs in 1.214; Fronk Rank a mile in 1.43; Centrepiece seven furlongs, assisted by Serotina over the last six, in 1.30 2-5; Dark Spot half a mile in 51, and French Leave and Tripaway the same journey.in 49 2-5. Silver Coot and Money Mart four furlongs in 50 3-5. Crossbow six furlongs, assisted by Don Joso over the last five, in 1.18. Rapier, Brightling, and Red Wink six furlongs in 1.16 4-5, the former pair finishing in front. Ophir and Shearman four furlongs in 51*. Beau Geste and Streamer four furlongs in 50 3-5; and Sir Roy and Violet 11. five furlongs in 1.2 2-5. On the plough. Bachelor ran seven furlones in 1.351: 'Economist and Thorndale a lnlf mile in SU; and Prophet's Mark six furlongs in 1.22 2-5.
Saggitarius and Calcite separately sprinted half a mile very pleasingly, while Jericho was indulged in a short sprint, and Battlement did strong work over a round. Hvperion has joined G. J. Pine's team at Riecartou. TROTTING NOTES. Nominations for the Poverty Bay T.O.'s Annual Meeting close to-day. Tho three-year-old pacer, Acre, has not been racing up to expectation, and it has been decided to give him a spell. Pete Peter, Maggio Pronto, and Don Douglas, who raced unsuccessfully at Auckland last month, did not return south with the other members of W. J. Tomkinson's team, but will bo kept in training at. Alexandra Park with a view to assisting at the Otahiiuu T.C.'s Summer Meeting in February. Acron has been transferred from t>. Withers' to J. Shaw's stablo, and in future the brilliant son of Logan Pointer and Millie C. will bo trained at Alexandra Park. Tho Greymouth Cup winner, Haunui, will in future bo trained at Addington by B. Jarden. Tho trotter, Kola Boy, who has raced consistently this season, has been placed out of commission, and is unlikely to race again until late in the season. Peter Bingen has been placed.on the easy list, and will not race again until, tho autumn. J. J. Jvennerley has taken Pedro Pronto in hand again, and hopes are entertained, that the brilliant son of Don Pronto and Doris M. will survive another preparation. On the concluding day of the Greymouth T.C.'s Summer Meeting, when doing his preliminary in the Railway Handicap, Audrey Dillon went sore. She was brought back to tho enclosure and with permission of ,the stewards was withdrawn from the race. Themoney invested on her on the totalisator was returned in full.
M. B. Edwards's at Irvington Lodge, Yaldhurst, has been strengthened by the inclusion of the four-year-old pacing gelding, Ariki, by Cathedral Chimes from Zara. C. • Donald has taken possession of the property recently vacated by M. B. Edwards at Belfast, and in future his team with be trained privately. The success of Great Bingen in the New Zealand Championship Free for All at the Northland T.C.'s Annual Meeting was freely anticipated. Although the champion lost half a dozen lengths at the start, it should not have affected the result, as in a handicap race over a mile and a half he would have to concede Prince Pointer and Imprint 24yds or more, which, on the moderate form shown by both his opponents at the Auckland T.C.'s Summer Meeting, did not make his task look a particularly hard one.
Buz Buz registered a smart performance by winning tho Northland Trotting Cup from thirteen others. The Australian-bred pacer was handicapped on 4.40 and scored nicely in 4.35, or ssec better than his handicap. In addition to driving Great Bingen to victory in the Free for All, D. Withers was associated with the Harold Dillon gelding, Tiki, who won the Whangarei Handicap. Peterson, winner of the Kawakawa Handicap, did not appear in the list of telegraphed acceptors. The race was for horses that can do smin or better, and as the half-brother to Admiral Wood covered the two miles in 4.50 it was his best effort to date. Trespass raced consistently at the Reefton J.C.'s Summer Meeting. The New Brighton-trained mare started in four races and registered a first and three seconds. Zenith's handicap in the Selma Trot at the Ashburton Racing Club's. Meeting is 72yds. For his win at Greymouth, Margalong has been penalised 24yds in tho Selmn Trot at the Ashburton Racing Club's Meeting. REEFTON J.C. PICKANINNY WINS HANDICAP. (PBEF3 nrnriOS riLBGBUI.) REEFTON, January 8. The weather was fine, the course fast, and there was a record attendance for the conclusion of tbe Reefton Summer Meeting. The top-weight, Nincompoop, was made a screaming hot favourite, the others being neglected on the machine. From an even dispatch, Prince C'harlei'oi shot lo the front, followed by Nincompoop, with the rest of the field close up. Prince Charleroi made the pace verm and had a good lead from Nincompoop and Hallownoon coming into the straight, when th« favourite dropped back lo third place, with Hallownooii coming fast. Prince Charleroi led to the distance, when he was overhauled by Hallownoon, who got the verdict by u long neck. The favourito was a length away third. Lytup was fourth. Ten started in the Electric Trot Handicap, Wee Audubon, with A. Hendriksen as pilot, being installed a good favourite, with General Thorpe next in demand. To Karere and General Thorpe were the early leaders, and passing the stand the order was To Karere, Merry Logan, Trespass, and General Thorpe, with the others well strung out in a cloud of dust. At the end of half a mile Merry Logan took charge, with Trespass and General Thorpe as her nearest attendants. Trespass .got to the front a furlong from home, and went on to win comfortably by a length and a half from Harina, who came with a wet sail in the straight. Merry Logan was half a length away third, and General Thorpo was fourth. Despito the fact that Trespass ran a good second yesterday, she was neglected on the machine and returned her supporters a substantial dividend. Harina, who ran into second place, also paid a nice price. The Second Hurdles proved a bigger surpriso packet than the event won by Flying Master on tho first day of the Meeting, the winner turning up in the aged mare Ellah, the rank outsider of tho field. Hokioi, Tenterfield, and Lord Leslie monopolised tho betting on tho machine, tho first-named going out favourite. Flying Master, Ellah, and Hokioi wore the early loaders. Going out of the back stretch Hokioi waß displaced by Tenterlield for third place, with Flying Master still in charge. Passing the stand the second time, Flying Master led from Ellah, Tenterlield, Lord Leslie, and Hokioi. The order was unchanged until the turn out of the back stretch, when tho field bunc'ied. Coming into tho straight, Lord Leslio had a slight, lead from tho others, who were all in tho tiring line. In a great raco up tho straight, the wholo field practically took tho last hurdle together, when Flying Master was done with, and Ellah. shot to the front, passing tho post a length and a half ahead of Lord Leslie, with Hokioi thren-quartors of a length away third. Tenterfield was fourth. An enquiry into alleged inconsistent running by the winner was held, but after hearing the evidence of the trainer and jockey no action was taken. Tho winner annexed a hack event at Greymouth, but in her forme.' hurdle engagements she was never prominent, and invariably finished in the ruck.
Eight horses paraded for the Inaugahua Handicap. Corn Rigs, Gay Queen, and Flaming Ray carried most of tho money. From a good start Pickaninny showed the way to the Held, followed by Corn Rigs. Going round the back straight, Pickaninny and Corn Rigs established a good lead from the others. Pickaninny led tho field into the straight, when Corn Rigs dropped back, and the rest of the field closed up. Pickaninny was never troubled, and landed home an easy winner by two lengths from No Response, who came fast in the straight. Gay Queen was three-quar-ters of a length back third, and Flaming Ray was fourth. Tho Cronadun Handicap attracted a field oi sis starters, the betting being monopolised by Heislor, Note, and Nincompoop, in that order. An even start saw Note assume tho lead, Some Abbey dragging in the rear. After going a few yards Some Abbey collapsed and dropped on tho track alongside tho rails, her rider, Eastwood, having a narrqw escape. Note was in charge for half a mile, when Heisler drew on even terms, and the pair raced together for a furlong, when Note again hit tho front and led lo the distance, but Nincompoop came liko a flash in the straight, and got up in time to get the verdict by a short neck. Tho Atom was two lengths back third, and Gaslight was fourth. Nincompoop paid his supporters a good dividend. , Eight starlors paraded for ■ tho Broadway Trot, Cnnnonball, Bell Somerton; Lord Lytton, and Ocean Whispers being the best supported, in that order. Tho winner turned up in an outsider, Red Comot, who led from start to finish, and won easily by two and a half lengths from Bell Somerton, who held the second position throughout tho race. Lord Lytton. on tho back mark, made a good showing, and finished two lengths away third. Ocean Whispers was fourth. 11. Frost, driver of Bell Somerton, was fined £lO for careless
driving in not keeping a straight course in the run home. The High-Weight handicap was a goo j betting race. Sartolito was installed a slightly better favourite than Corn Ri ss w ; t j, the others well supported. Corn lljji : ,,,j Sartolito were the early leaders, and the f.irmtr tried to win from end to end but faded out ut the turn into the straight, when the fieM closed up with Sartolite in (':l U r~'.-> In a great finish Sartolite failed to stall Tift' a determined challenge from Rapid Hose, who r.-.mo fast at the finish and prevailed l.'v three-quarters of a length from the favourite" who finished hnlf a length in front of Saxette. Captain Wai was fourth. Clontsrf and Silver Tray monopolised the betting in the Farewell Handicap, the former going out a warm favourite. The event was a one-dividend race, only five starters being carded. Silver Tray was the first out, and won from end to end, getting the verdict bv half a length from Corinthic. with the favourito n nose back third. Pickaninny -u il3 fourth.

Tho favourite- took charge from the rise of the barrier, and led all the way, winning easily by two lengths from Jolly Glad, who led Blue Dragoon by three lengths. The Lochella Cup produced a good betting race, Ahuriri going out a few pounds better backed than Beau, with Incursio almost as well backed. Happy Hawk led Brilliant Hope and Earnscleugh down thn straight, but after going three furlongs Brilliant Hope took charge and led Happy Hawk and Incursio along the back. At tho home turn Ahuriri ran into second place, but could not reach Brilliant Hope, who won easily. Tho coupled pair, Anti Acido and Dolly Houi, were made a good favourite for tho New Year Trot, with Cabin Spark and Lucky Star tho best backed of the others. Brownwood and Cabin Spark were out in front for a mile, with Anti Acido and Sheila Fleetwood close up. Brownwood broke going out of the straight, and Sheila Fleetwood and Anti Acido joined Cabin Spark. Tho latter broke at tho five furlongs post, and Sheila Fleetwood went on to win by eight lengths from Anti Acido, with Cabin Spark four lengths off third, and Lucky Star fourth. Martis caried 91b penalty in tho Matakanui Handicap, and was sent out a better favourite than Arrowmir, with Hurdy Gurdy next in demand.
