LOCAL ARRANGEMENTS. COMPREHENSIVE PROGRAMME. The programme arranged for the visit of their Royal Highnesses to Christchurch will be:— Saturday, March 12th. 0 p.m. Arrive at Christchurch station by special train from the West . Coast. Proceed to Warner's Hotel, escorted by returned soldiers and veterans. 8 p.m.—Civic reception at King Edward's Barracks (speakers, His Worship the Mayor of Christchurch; the Hon. Mr Justice Adams, Bishop West-Watson] -Mayors and chairmen of local bodies to occupy seats on the platform and to be presented to their Koyal Highnesses, by his Worship tho Mayor of Christchurch. Programme of suitable items to be arranged. Sunday, March 13th. 11 a.m.—Their Royal Highnesses to attend church service at Anglican Cathedral. 2.15 p.m.—Private motor drive with Mayor (ind Councillors. Afternoon-tea with Sir Heaton and Lady Rhodes at Otahuna. Sunday evening free. Monday, March 14th. 10 a.m.—United children's demonstration at Haglev Park—Parade of Girl Guides and Boy Scouts—Demonstration by senior children of primary schools (arranged by the Headmasters' Association). A. gift to be presented to Iler Royal Highness from the- school children of Christchurch for the Royal baby, Princess Elizabeth. 1 p.m.—His Royal Highness the guest of the Rotary Club at lunch. 2.15 p.m.—Their Royal Highnesses leave for Amberley by car, a five minutes' stay to be made at Kaiapoi en route. 3.30 p.m. —Caledonian gathering at Amberley Domain. Escort of mounted returned soldiers. Welcome by the [ North Canterbury residents. Demonstration by 2000 North Canterbury school children. 4.30 p.m.—Leave for Christchurch. 7.30 p.m.—His Royal Highness guest of Canterbury Chamber of Commerce at dinner in the Caledonian Hall. 9 p.m. —Citizens' Ball at the Addington Trotting Ground Pavilion. Tuesday, March 15th. 9.30 a.m.—Drive around Christchurch, including short visit to the T.M.C.A., Canterbury College, and the Christchurch Hospital. 10.30. a.m.—Her Royal Highness will lay the foundation stone of the Nurses' Memorial Chapel at Christchurch Hospital. 11 a.m. —His Royal Highness will visit Wilding Park and unveil the memorial gate (tennis arrangements if desired). 11.45 a.m. —Race meeting at Riccarton (programme to include trotting fixtures). 1 p.m. —Their Royal Highnesses will be the guests of the Canterbury Jockey Club at lunch.
3 p.m.—Garden fete and river carnival. Special accommodation to be provided for war veterans, blind, aged, and infirm people. The first pioneers who arrived by chartered ships, to be presented to their Royal Highnesses. Her Royal Highness to plant a tree in the Botanic Gardens.
7.30 p.m.—Her Eoyal Highness to bo entertained by-the United Women's. Organisations of Canterbury, at the Trotting Club pavilion, Addington. Presentation : to Her Koyal Highness by the women of Chri^tehurch. 7.30 p.m.—His Eoyal Highness will bd the guest of the Canterbury Officers' ! Club at dinner. 9 p.m.—Visit to the Christchurcli Beturned Soldiers' Club. Welcome by the president of the E.S.A., and "Club Evening." ' . Wednesday, March 15th. Leave for Dunedin. * The foregoing programme was settled at a special meeting of the Executive held at the Mayor's house yesterday, and is subject to confirmation by the Government. The Race Meeting. • An application was forwarded by the Canterbury Jockey Club for a special permit, which was refused by the Government. At its meeting yesterday, the Executive had before it two applications—ono from the Canterbury Jockey Club and one from the New Brighton Trotting Club. . Both Clubs proposed to alter the dates of their ordinary race Meeting, in order to coincide with the Duke's After some discussion it was decided to accept the offer of the Jockey Club, provided that trotting fixtures were included in the programme. fishing camp. ELABORATE PREPARATIONS. [THE PRESS Special Service.] AUCKLAND, January 7. Considerable preparations aro being made for a fishing camp for the Duke and Duchess of York on Tongariro lliver a short distance from Tokaanu. New tracks are-being cut through the bush to open up new . fishing grounds at the water's edge, and a wide clearing will bo made for a. site for the camp. Electric light will be laid on to each tent and plentiful supplies of hot and cold water.will be available. It is intended to build an ideal fishing camp, and the site will be available for the use of other anglers after the visit of the Royal party. The Duke and Duchess are to spend two nights at the camp.
