1 • holiday rush. INCREASED RECEIPTS. In the 192-3-2 d Christmas and New Year holiday period, the Dunedin Exhibition was responsible for an extraordinary rush of traffic to the south. The number of trains travelling to Dunedin exceeded all records, and the Department reaped a rich harvest from the holidaymakers. In spite of this great number of bookings and large Total of receipts the figures for the holidays of 19-6-27 easily eclipsed them," setting up a record which will take a great deal of beating. The full figures are not yet available, but from, those supplied it will be seen .that the Department's progressive policy is having gratifying results. The period under review is that during which excursion tickets were issued—December loth to January sth. The figures for the railway station are as follows : 1925-26. 1826-27. Ordinary tickets ... 23,233 31,201 Excursion ... 6,344 9,333 Totals. ... 29,577 40,73" .Revenue. 1923-26. 1926-27. £ £ i Ordinary tickets 3.222 15 9 4,843 18 10 Excursion 3,943 13 7 7,203 3 8 £9,166 11 4 12,049 4 Q At the Central booking office the bookings for the period stated were: Ordinary 933, excursion 4630.
