Mies Kathleen Thomas,(Sumner) k has returned from a holiday visit to Napier. Miss Lucy Gaffancy (Temuka) is paying a holiday visit to Mrs . Jeffries (Hokitika). Mr and Mrs A. H. Dunkley (Wellington), who have been spending the ivacatiou with Mr "lid Mrs A. D. Dunkley at ChristuTurch, and with Dr. and Mrs S. Trail at Little River, returned to Wellington, last night. Mr and Mrs C. W. Steivart (Wellington), who recently returned from an extensive tour abroad, arrived in Christchurch yesterday morning, and have taken Mrs E. Pine's house, Hawke street, New Brighton, for a term. Miss Thelma Ayers (llangiora) lias returned from Hanmer Springs. Mrs A. E.. Gay and the MiSses W. and E. Gay (Cape Town, South Africa) are staying with Mrs W. H. Mnnhire (Hornby), Miss Elsie Gay is on tho ; editorial staff of the "Cape Argus," and is on a six months' tour to New Zealand.

Mr and Mrs G. Asliby, who have been rvisiting Mrs J. Wright ("Craigielea," Leithfield), are returning to Grey mouth to-dav.

Miss Edna Mac Donald, who has also been the guest of Mrs James Wright ("Craigielea," North Canterburv) has returned to Christchurch.

Mr and Mrs H. Di Morgan (Dune din) are staying at the Royal Hotel.

Despite the unpleasant weather conditions prevailing on Christmas Eve, the sum. of £4O 6s 7d was raised for the St. Saviour's Orphanage Christmas Holiday Fund at. the stall- in Victoria square. Mrs Calsou organised the sale, and she was assisted by Mesdames Nash, Munro, McDcrmott, Misses do ClieiicRigg, E. Clarke, M. Calson, D. Brown, and B. Calson.

The last concert given at the Seamen's Institute, Lyttelton, by the members of the Sumner Guild of the British Sailors' Society, was arranged by Mesdames Wathew'and Crosby. An excellent programme was presented, and much appreciated by the men present. contributing items were Mesdames W. J.- Cook, Wathew, Graham, and Mercer, and Misses Cousins, Lezard, Elise Crosby, Betty Bennett, Joyce Cotton, .Mavis McLean, Mr Campbell, and Master T. Vaughan. Mesdames Baker and Thornley superintended supper. The Girl Citizens assembled at St. Andrew's College, Papanui, spent a very happy'day yesterday. In the morning there was the usual routine of studies, Council Hour and discussions. During the' Council Hour, the regulation white hat of Girl Citizen uniform was changed .to one -of navy blue. In the afternoon a Maori picnic was planned , but' the weather dia not seem favourable enough ' for -this, and instead, the girls paid a visit to the City to inspect the .unique and beautiful buildings.. In the evening they all gathered, about 85 strong in the library. ■ - A- beautiful fire was burning and the lights were dimmed. In this appropriate setting 'Miss ' Bridgman delivered a delightful talk on the theme' "Explorers in the Sand of Romance."
