N.Z. LEAGUE TOUR.
DISAPPOINTING FINANCIAL RESULTS. (FROM 00* OWS COSRESPONDEHT.) LONDON, November 30. At a meeting of the Council of the Rugby League at Manchester, it was resolved to appoint a sub-committee to meet the New Zealand team managers and discuss matters of mutual interest before their departure on January 28th. The Bradford "Daily Telegraph" remarks: "The New Zealand tourists have no doubt been disappointed with the financial results accruing from their visits to the various clubs in the Rugby League, but they have come to this country at an unfortunate time. Considering the disastrous effects which unemployment and the coal dispute have had upon people in Keighley, where they were entertained, the turnover of £293 may be considered very satisfactory. Indeed, it was better than many folk had expected. It does not compare well, perhaps, with that of 1907, when the receipts reached £350, but it stands well against the figures for the present tour at Bradford (£275), Leeds (£269), Salford (£230), York (£269), and Bramley (£B7). An attendance of nearly 4000 people at Lawkholme for a midweek match suggests the great interest which is taken by Keighley supporters in the visit of the New Zealanders to this country, and the officials of the Rugby League will congratulate themselves on their decision to grant Keighley's application for, a fixture."
