Damaged Boats, It is seldom that so many damaged crafts are on the beach at the same time, but on Wednesday evening there were two boats and a canoo washed up by the tide. One of the boats is the craft in which the six boys, one of whom was drowned, got into trouble, and it is at present high and dry not far from the Life-Saving Pavilion. The other, which was washed up in the shelter of the big rock near the band rotunda, was moored at the pier for the greater part of a fortnight, but it does not appear to be damaged to any great extent. A canoe, which seems -to have been verv well built, suffered much damage through being thrown against the Clifton Esplanade by the waves. Tennis. Mr H. W. Ogier, of the Sumner Club, has just returned from Timaru, where he played in the tournament, meeting with great success. He was in the semi-final of the men's open singles, in which he was defeated by Page, of Otago, a very experienced player. He won the handicap singles, and with his partner won the handicap doubles. Considering that he has had very little experience of tournament play, these performances were excellent, and he must be regarded as one of Canterbury s coming players.
