Mr Patrick Ryan, licensee of the Metropolitan Hotel, Wellington, and formerly of the West Coast, died last evening after an illness of several months' duration. He was <6 years of age and a native of lipperarv, Ireland, and leaves a widow, three sons and three daughters. Mr Michael Byan. of Eldon lane, Greymouth, is a brother. Mr S. Currie, Permanent Way Inspector of Railways, Springfield, and formerly of Greymouth, is spending a holiday on the West Coast. Miss Jack (Chnstchurch) is visiting Greymouth and is the guest of Mr and Mrs Rowley Smith, Kilgour road. The Misses Richards arrived from Christchurch this afternoon to spend a holiday at Funakaiki with Mrs Carr and family.
Sister E. Ryan of the Limes Hospital, Christchurch, and for many years attached to the Grey Hospital staff, will arrive to-morrow to spend a few days with friends prior to leaving for Australia. During her stay she will bo the guest of Miss Meßrearty, Cowper street.
Mrs J, Goodall (Wellington), accompanied by her granddaughter, is visiting Greymouth. Tb°y are the guests of Mrs H. Williams "(senior), Herbert street).
Miss Violet Stubbs, who has been visiting her parents, Mr and Mrs J. W. Stubbs, Preston "road, returned today to Wellington. Captain Middleton, of the Reefton Branch of the Salvation Army, leaves on Tuesday on transfer to Queenstown. Mr D. Leahy (Wellington) is spending a holiday with Mr and Mrs W. Kirwan, Eeefton. Mr J. Lock, of the P. and T. Office at Hokitika, has been transferred to Rose, on promotion, He was met last evening by the members of the Hokitika staff and presented with a gladstone bag. The marriage was solemnised at Hokitika yesterday of Miss Elsie Johnston, daughter of Mr and Mrs Johnston (Stillwater), and Mr Patrick Sweeney, eldest son of Mr J. Sweeny, Okarito. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. J. Perkins.
The marriage was solemnised at Hokitika, the Rev. Dr. J. Kennedy officiating, of Mr Gordon Bryant, youngest son of Mr and Mrs Bryant, Spreydon, Christchurch, and Miss Amelia Haussmann, eldest daughter of Mrs Peake. The bride, who was given away by her brother, Mr G. Haussmann, wore mauve silk, with hat to match, and was attended by Miss Phyllis Haussmann, who wore a pretty frock of heliotrope brocaded silk. Mr Leslio Bryant, of Christchurch, was best man. Messrs D. Stevenson and J. W. Haywafd, who have been attending the Nelson howling tournament, returned to Hokitika. Hot Weather. Very hot weather has been experienced on the West Coast during the past few days. The conditions at Reefton to-day resembled those of a tropical zone, and visitors from Greymouth and Westport found the heat of the inland towns very trying..
Vagrancy Charge, Charged at Keefton yesterday with being an idle and disorderly person a man named W. Roberts was remanded to appear at. Greymouth on January 17th. Bail was allowed in self £IOO and two sureties of £SO each.
