CRICKET.

AUCKLAND V. WELLINGTON LIVELY BATTING, (.rsras issociatios tslegeam.) WELLINGTON, January 7. The cricket match between Auckland and Wellington to-day, although not quite up to Plunket Shield standard, produced some sparkling batting displays. Auckland won the toss and elected to bat, Bowley and Mills were the opening batsmen, and McGirr and Massey were the Wellington bowlers. Bowley had a life before reaching double figures, but a few balls after, he lifted Mitchell, who had replaced McGirr, and Hollings brought off a magnificent catch. 32 —I—l 3. Cooper was nest, and treated Mitchell with the utmost respect. Soon after the half-century Hollings took the ball from Massey, and clean bowled Cooper. 67—2—21. Gillespie joined Mills, but, without any improvement to the score, McGirr skittled Mills's stumps. 67 —3 —29. Player was nest. Soon after the tea adjournment Gillespie was out, lbw. 98—-I—lß. Dacre came to the wickets in the breeziest of moods, opening at a lively pace and collecting 11 off one over. Player also started to hit out, but Hollings beat him with a beauty. 120—5 —15. Postles nest opened with a single, but Dacre soon started to smack the bowling all over the field. Massey relieved McGirr, and Dacre put one into Collins's hands. 137—6—28. Smeeton filled the vacancy, but did not last long. Massey clean bowled him. 151 —7—ll. Matheson was nest, and, with Postles, hit the bowling all over the field.
