The Christchurch Drainage Board's work in the laying .of. mains under its big drainage scheme has been ■■ proceeding: fast. - Unfortunately,' while. 31.50 miles of. main -and- reticulation sewers and. 5.58 rising mains have been .laid at Papanui, Riccartbn. Spreydoii, Fendaltoii, St. Albans, North..Linwood, North Richmond., and parts of Avonside, Woolston. and Opawa, the pump-ing-stations have not been installed as yet, due mainly to delays in the necessary plant coming to hand.
Under the scheme, provision was made, for 19 sub-stations, seven of which are main-Jirie stations, and the balance subsidiary stations in saeli'lowlying districts as Woolston, and a portion of Beckenham. The indications aro that four main-line stations will be completed about the end of March, when certain districts will be able to use the service. These main r line stations are at Randolph street, Church road, Woodham road. and Retreat road. Much work has to be done before the stations at Harrison street and Stapleton's road will, be ; completed, and work has only just been star fed'on the station" "at" Matai "street. Riccarton
