ELECTRIC CURRENT.
FUTURE SUPPLY. Under the heading "Future Supply," the General Manager of the Municipal Electricity Department (Mr E. Hitchcock) in hifl report for the year, makes the following observations : There are not wanting indications that dissatisfaction exists in the outer residential areas of the City, with the diverse and in some cases anomalous rates that result from localised and limited control in some of these areas. This important question has been discussed at various times with different local bodies, and it is desirable that expression should be given to some general policy governing this matter. The ability of the City to offer to less favourably situated neighbouring local bodies the resources of such a development as that at Otarama, coupled with the benefits of a City's load characteristics, makes possible, in the future development of Canterbury, benefits for rural and suburban districts not otherwise obtainable.'
Not only should the next undertaking be commenced in sufficient time to ensure that continuous development and progress will be possible, but the importance of its location in regard to the main centre of load, must not be overlooked. To utilise an economical development, near to a large city, in accessible country, and with direct rail facilities, is a civic and national obligation.
