' Mr R. Davios (Taranaki) said thatf Rangitoto Island was an illufitrfttioa of the need for greater attention being] paid to native hush. He had found! that beautiful haven of native trees infested with exotio plants. It was deplorable also to notice that people thought nothing of taking away planta from the island. Mr J. Johnston (Auckland): Thai! is an offence punishable by a heavy fine.
Mr Davies: It does not stop people* going openly on ferries' with an arm* ful of leaves.
Mr T. Waugh said a start had been: made in setting aside an area of native trees at Wilton's Busk in Wel« liugton. Mr Davics: It is not a national undertaking. Mr Waugh replied that Dr. Cockayne* had advised that it was impossible! with the climatic conditions in Ncwi Zealand to have a representative area) of native bush set aside in one centre* The remits were carried.
