LONDON, January 4
A serious wave of influenza is sweeping over Europe, and from all countries eorue reports of growing lists of victims. So far tho English epidemic is mild, though it is causing anxiety. In France it is most severe in the southern and central districts and less violent in the Paris district. In Montpelier the deaths average 20 a day and have been as high at 32 in one day. It is estimated that 100,000 people are affected. Spain is suffering a milder form of the malady, though 94 deaths aro reported in Madrid in ft week.
There were over two thousand cases in Basle, where the schools' are closed. There aro 20,000 cases in Berlin alone and work generally is considerably hampered, whilo in Central Bavaria tho epidemic is spreading like wildfire.
