BUTTER DUMPING.
[AUSTRALIA AND CANADA. I MR BRUCE TO DISCUSS MATTER. "»T CUU-HIU ASSOCIATIOU—COPTMGffT.) (kVBTBALIAX AND f.Z- CABLE ASSOCIATIOK.) OTTAWA, January 4. The Rt. Hou. Stanley Bruce, upon arrival at. Toronto, will be .taken immediately to Government. House, where be will be a guest until he leaves for Hamilton to-morrow. A delegation, headed by Mr J. »S. McLean, representing the provision interests Of the city, asked to meet Mr Bruce to discuss "tho butter situation. Toronto butter dealers point out that Milder the Patterson schomo Australian butter could enter hero from five to six cents below the price of Ontario produce, and this resulted in dumping duties being imposed, which virtually stopped the importation of Australian ■butter.
It will be pointed out that the Patterson scheme is not a State aid to butter producers but a private arrangement.
Provision interests feel that unless Australian butter comes to Canada unaided, whether privately or by the Government, local producers particularly in Ontario, producing 20,000,0001b annually, j n order to maintain the love] tf prices, will succeed in keeping dumping duties in force, and provision interests will import butter from countries other than .Australia.
