Blamires brought 110 up, and his score to 21, with a brace off Matheson, but next ball was bowled off his pads. 110— 6—21. At 135 Bow'cy replaced Matheson. Dickinson lifted him high to the boundary. He went for another lash off the third ball and was clean bowled. 135—7—15. Zimmerman was slow in getting a start, tut he reached double figures with a fine six off Bowley. The batsnr/n settled down to bat slowly surely, and at the afternoon tea adjournment the scire' was 198, Alloo being 39 and Zimmerman 34. A'k'O brought 2(W up after the inn ings had been in p-ogress for 4 hours 27 minutes. Zimmerman skied a ball from Alcott, and Gillespie took an easy catch. The partnership had added 71 runs. 20(5—8—37. Torrance had a short stay, lifting Matheson to Gillespie, who held the chance. 213 —9 5. MELBOURNE, January 5. Victoria in their eecond innings made 649 (Love 188, Hartkopf 126, Liddicut 39, Ellis 21). Bowling for South Australia, Grimmett took live wickets for 180 runß and Williams four for 103. The weather was dull and the wicket good. The not out out men, Love 170 and Hartkopf 101, opened carefully, only 16 runs being scored in the first half-hour, After one escape, Love waa caught off Williams. He had .given a patient display, lasting altogether 6 hours 17 minutes. Hartkopf added 25 before he went. It was his first century in Sheffield Shield cricket and included 19 fours. Liddicut and Ellis carried the total past the 600 mark, which had occupied 9 hours 17 minutes. Tho remaining wickets fell cheaply. Grimmett and Williams bowled well, and managed to keep the batsmen largely on the defensive. Heavy rain commenced before the visitors could go to the wickets, and was still falling at 5 o'clock, when play was abandoned for the day.
