LONDON, January 3.
Lancashire beat the New Zealand Rugby League team by 28 points ro three.
The New Zealand team was: C. Dufty L. Brown, J. Kfrwan, B. Davidson, W. Desmond, Y. Delgrosso, Wilson Hall, J. Menzies, J.Paikes, E. Herring, L. Mason, H. Thomas, and H. Avery. The match was played at Leigh, Lancashire scored eight trios, two of which were converted and the New Zealanders one tiy. There were six thousand spectators.
Lancashire were superior in all departments, but their goal-kicking was poor. The New Zealanders' combination was defective, and they were also slow compared with their opponents. Davidson did not reproduce his usual form lecause of an injured leg. The New Zealanders won the toss and gave Lancashire the first use of a strong breeze. Carr, Bithell, and Ellaby Bc6red tries in the first half, none of which was converted. Two penalties from favourable positions were also missed. Lancashire, in the second half, stayed better and Ellaby scored the most spectacular try of the day, after running 70 yards. Carr, Frodshaw, Wood, and Price also obtained tries, Crooks and Carr converting one each. Herring scored after one of New Zealand's rare breakaways.
