ZANE GREY'S YACHT.
A SERVICEABLE CRAFT. Zane Grey's yacht, the Fisherman, a graceful, white-hulled schooner, with three tall meats, arrived at Auckland on Friday morning, and throughout the.day attracted a lot of attention as she lay at anchor off Stanley Point. Although her lines are graceful, there is no doubt that utility wae moat in the builder's mind when she was launched at Ward's Brook, Nova Scotia, in 1919. Her principal measurements are:—Length 134 ft, beam 3Slt, and draught, lift. Under her ] original name of Marshal Foch ehe traded across the Atlantic, and has one. record voyage to her credit. On coming into Mr Grey's hands she was renamed, twin 60 h.p. , engines were installed, and sho was refitted to make a comfortable floating home. The Fisherman is carrying all the equipment necessary for an extended fishing trip. In addition to a lifeboat and two chip a boats on board, there are two skirls and four power launches, two being sharp-bowed aid fast, to develop tho high speed that wul be. necessary when some of the North Auckland maTtos and swordfish get up yace. The furnishings of the Fisherman are on plain and homely lines, though everything is up-to-date, including a h.gh-powcr*a wiieless set, which kept touch with the world throughout the voyage, a refrigerator, icemaking plant, darkroom for cmematograpb work, eUotrio light, and auxihary engines for providing the necessary power for the hoisting of laile find the liftin* of anchors. The Fisherman', main engines give her a speed of about seven knots in calm water but the vessel for her size has a tremendo.s sail-spread, and when wind* *f ( * a ™ r * ble ehe is a sailer in every sense of the word As is usual with tho square-countered type of craft built in the Canadian marine provinces, the Fisherman has a roomy deckhouse just forward of amidships, while, since her conversion from a trader the whole of the room below the main deck, with, the exception of a very «omy engine-room, has been remodelled to provide mm ™ a ,3 I for those on board, the crew being housed I in spacious surroundings forward. One cabin is packed with fishing gear, while stowed on top of one of the launches, and, looking somewhat out of it? clement,.is a motor-ear. The officers of the Fisherman are .-Captain P. K. Klebingat; first officer Mr B. A Aderman-, second officer, Mr Anderson; chief engineer, Mr G. Quodly first Mr L. K. McCall; second, Mr E. Mitchell, wireless-operator, MrW-Zind. . . The Fisherman will remain at # anchor in Auckland Harbour until the arrival of Mr Zane Grey and his fishing party.
