(AUSTHALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION.) (Received January 3rd, 8.30 p.m.) LONDON, January 3. Later messages from Innsbruck state that Arlberg, where the avalanche disaster occurred, is a famous ski-ing region, but a difficult one, being suit-able-only for experts. It is especially dangerous now owing to a thaw following a period of extreme cold. This caused an enormous snowfield, half a inilo wide, to break from b mountain side, engulfing two ski-ing parties from Zurs. Of tViese, two were women, one of whom was killed. Bome of the bodies were buried under a snowdrift as high as a two-storey house. Rescue parties w6rked in relays the whole night through, by light of flares, digging frantically in the hope that someone might be alive. The faces of the victims recovered so far Were calm and passive, indicating that death was instantaneous.
