SUMMARY FOR DECEMBER. (TRISS ABSOCIITIO* T»L»OEAM.) "WELLINGTON, January 3. The weather summary for December states that the month proved a cool one with dull and changeable weather quite in accordance with the general backwardness of the season. The average temperature was 58,7 degrees, which is below the average. The maximum temperature was reached on December 29th, when 74.7 degrees was recorded. On the morning of the 4th the lowest' reading (41.3 degrees) waa registered. There were no frosts on the grass during the month. lire month's rainfall was half an inch over the average, the total being 3.7b inches with a maximum fall of yi points on December 11th. There were four days without any bright sunshine at all, the total for tie month being 211 hours 10 minutes, over 28 hours less than the average. There was less wind than usual, the daily average velocity being 40 miles less than the average. The daily average was 238J miles with a maximum of 593 miles on December 14th and a minimum of 3G miles on another day. Barometric pressure fluctuated between 30.512 inches and 29.601 inches, the average being 29.935.

The heavy rainfall in Auckland during the Christmas holidays provided the climax to nn exceptionally wet year, the rainfall for the 12 months being 62.98 inches, compared with a yearly average of 43.79 inches. The rainfall for the last month was 6.39 inches, or 3.85 inches above the average for December, and within 2.20 of the wettest December, which was in 1916, when the rainfall for the mouth was 8.59 inches.
