SMART RESCUE.

CHILD FALLS FROM WHARF. [THE PEESS Special Service.] ■ . r AUCKLAND, January. 3. . A little child was saved from drowning off Ponsonby wharf by quick action on the part of Mr W. Feek, of Vermont street, Ponsonby. The child was with its mother, Mrs F. Wilson, of New South- Wales, when it slipped on the wharf steps, and, overbalancing, fell into the water. Although but a poor swimmer himself, Mr Feek dived in and brought the child safely to the wharf. Ho was in an exhausted condition when ho landed as the child had drifted some distance from the wharf.
