TWO MILLION LISTENERS. THE NEW 8.8.C. SALARIES. (.FKOJI OUR OWN COERESroKDEXT.) LONDON, November 16. A White Paper has been issued which announces that the ' British Broadcasting Company are to be bought out for £620,000. All studios, plant, and publications are included in the deal with the Government. The total includes a contribution of £548,464 to the company's revenue in respect of the period from. March 31st to December 31st, and £71,536 in respect of share capital, to he repaid m full. ■.'■•, A draft of the royal charter for which the Postmaster-General proposes to apply, states that the new governors and their salaries will be: —Earl of Clarendon, Under-Secretary for Dominion Affairs ' (chairman), £3000; Lord Gainford, chairman of the 8.8.C. (vice-chairman), £1000; Sir J. G. Naime, director of the Bank of England, £700; Dr. M. J. Rendall, formerly headmaster of Winchester, £700; Mrs Ethel Snowden, £7OO/ In addition, the governors will be paid expenses. Thev will retain office for five years. Mr J. C. W. Reith, managing director of the 8.8.C, will be director-general, at a salary to be fixed by the governors. Copyrights. Among other things, the new corporation may acquire copyrights in any literary, musical, and artistic works, plays, songs, gramophone records, news, and other matter, and any trade marks and trade names. It may collect news and establish and subscribe to news agencies. The Postmaster-General, after, deducting 12J per cent, on account of the cost of collection and administration from the amount received in respect of licenses, will pay to the corporation a sum equal to 90 per cent, in respect of the first million licenses, 80 per cent, in respect of the second million, 70 per cent, in respect of the third million, and 60 per cent, in respect of all additional licenses. It is stated that more than two million persons in Great Britain and Northern Ireland have taken out licenses for .receiving sets.
