DUNEDIN FIRE.
♦ BLOCK OF BUILDINGS DAMAGED. [THE PRESS Sp«cl*l Service.] DUNEDIN, January 2. A disastrous fire occurred in the early hours of this morning, in the block of buildings occupied by the Strand tearooms and several business houses. The outbreak was first noticed by the iiolice patrol, who summoned the brigade, but before the brigade could reach the scene the flames, which had apparently been burning fiercej inside the building for some time had sained an alarming hold. Good A\ork hv a large fire fightine force eventually extinguished the blaze, but the damage done was very great. The flames spread to the clothing shop occupied by i Misses A. and G. Gallagher and did much damage to the stock. ; Patterson's (outfitters). ' Ha ™ er ® (■fruiterers), Gourlay's (pork shop) and [he American Candy Company's premises were also affected by fire and
