Johnson » Shooting. b team ot seven men from the Ashfcurton Defence Rifle Club will visit Kedcliffs on Saw Year's Day to compete in the annual Canterbury Kitle Championships. A meeting of the Hakutere Sports Club was held on 'Wednesday evening, when theru was a good attendance ot hut-holders present. • Mr C'ookson reported having received n gift front Mr Sealey, in the form of a silver vase, and it was reloived that it be a prize for married lidv anglers and anglers' wives. fhc following committees were appointed: —Toys: Messrs C'ookson and TV. H. Robinson; sports, Messrs M. Knox, R. Shearman, H. Anderton, A. Thompson, P. C'ookson, J. Dalley, VV. H. Kobinson; grounds, H. Hyde, .1. Bae, J. Burrows. S. Beauvais, 11. Thomas; side-shows, F. Crum, J. Burrows. S>. Beauvais, J. Rae; hot water, W. Thomas; gates and checkers, Mr F. Crum; competitions, Miss Cates. Mrs Opie, Misses Robinson, Crum, Hardy, and Anderton. It was resolved that Messrs Gates, Robinson, Crura, and, Anderton bring in a report upon the question of a hall, tennis court, and other improvements to the grounds, and that a gcner:il meeting of hut-holders lie held on January Bth to decide what should le done.
The Weather. A light drizzling rain fell for a toiiple of hours Yesterday morning, bub the weather then cleared and bright tunshino -was experienced for the remainder of the day. Up to 9 a.m. yesterday morning two points of rain were recorded at tin; Domain weather station.
MOUNT SOMERS. A Tery successful dance in aid of (he Anglican Sunday School prize and picnic fund was held in the Memorial Hall on Wednesday evening, and deapite the inclemency of the weather there was a largo gathering, including many visiting people now holiday-mak-ing in the district. Muaic was supplied by Mrs E. C. Wood and Miss L. Wood, who received continuous encores, while extras given by visitors present were also highly appreciated. The duties of M.C. wero carried out by Messrs N. Stevena and N. Beekley. It was announced that the postponed prizegiving and picnic would be held in the Domain on New Year's Day (weather permitting), followed by a dance in the evening.
Mines Spenco and Butler (Maori Hill, Dunedin), are the guests of Mrs t. C. Wood (Mt. Somers). Mr and Mrs J. Fraser (North Dunedin) have been on a short visit to Mrs W. Robinson (Mt. Somers).
METHVEN. At the fortnightly meeting of the loyal Methvon Lodge, "M.U., 1.0.0. F., Bro. L. Vaughan, hon. secretary of the Pienie Committee, reported in detail in connexion with the arrangements for the forthcoming picnic on New Year's Day. AH arrangements wero well in land, and several gifts had been received and promised. It was decided to place 1.P.N.0. Bro. E. J. Bladder's Bame on the merit board, and that he receive a Past-Grand's certificate and the Purple Degree.
