GANG OF THIEVES.

AUCKLAND YOUTHS ARRESTED. [THE PRESS SpecUl Service.] AUCKLAND, December 30. As a result of enquiries by detectives, eight youths were arrested yesterday on charges of breaking and entering and theft. A considerable quantity of stolen property has been recovered. This morning at the Police Court, Noel Desmond McGonagle (18$), Hector Donald Connelly (17). Edward Campbell Eaton (17), and Alfred John Travers (17) were each charged with breaking and entering the house of Mr W. C. Sewell on December sth, and stealing a pair of opera glasses, three gold watches, and jewellery, of a total value of £9O, whiie Cyril Patterson (17) and James Norman Richards (17) were each charged with breaking and entering the dwelling of Mr Basil R. Arnott and stealing stout, brandy, whisky, two legs of lamb, an ox tongue, and handkerchiefs, of a total value of £2O 13s.

He would not oppose bail in Eaton's case. "These are members of a gang who have been taking charge of things, breaking and entering places. Bail was refused all the accused except Eaton, who was ordered to remain at home at nights, and to .report himself to the police in the daytime.
