SLANGING JEWS.
♦— — CHALLENGE TO HENRY FORI?. I/BOM OUR OWK CORRESPONDENT.) SAN FRANCISCO, November 25. Charging that Henry Ford, the American motor-car magnate, has engaged his wealth "in a campaign of slander against the Jewish people," Nathan Straus, the American philanthropist, has invited the manufacturer to select eight members of a committee of ten, which would prove to him that "some of the sycophants in his surroundings, for their own personal reasons, misinformed and doceived him'' on Jewish questions. Speaking at-Boston at an annual conference of the United Talestine Appeal, which opened the year's drive for 7,000,000 dollars, Mr Straus asserted that the Jewish millionaires who fail in their duty to aid the cause "arc not the only offenders by not employingtheir wealth properly." "Among the Christian millionaires are some who use their wealth for the b -nefit of mankind, and others who use it for destructive purposes, for breeding trouble," he said. ,'"'., "For example, the Rockefellers, both father and son, are devoting their millions to help the welfare of mankind, to promote science and advance civilisation; while a man like Henry Ford, who has become • one of the richest money kings of the world, has engaged in a campaign of slander against the Jewish people, has spread malicious lies about them, and stirred up trouble, mischief, and hatred hero and in Europe. Characterising the Rockefeller wealth as a "blessing" and Ford's as ""acurse to America and the rest of the world, because' it. has been used for the spread' of hatred and. not of peace, Straus declared that "it is not yet too late." -, Duped by Sycophants. He continued: "Mr Ford and his son must have realised ere now that some of the sycophants in "his surroundings, for their own personal reasons, misinformed and deceived him. For a man of his vast interests,' it is not possible to verify all that is reported to him. It takes 'the Great' to make amends for their mistakes, and although we have suffered much from these' past attacks on an innocent, inoffensive people, we will forgive and. forget if Mr. Ford admits the wrong he has inadvertently inflicted in the past. "If he submitted the facts to a committee of ten men of unimpeachable characters, ministers, and laymen, he would be' fully convinced of the justice of my claim. Let him select eight, and I will select two outstanding Christians, tried and true, to sit on this committee. Is not this a fair proposition?" A total of. 810,000 dollars, including 50,000 dollars' subscription from Felix M. Wearburg, of New York, was announced as subscribed in the closing minutes of the session. Dr. Chaim "Weisemann, president of the world Zionist organisation, told the conference that the' process of rebuilding the homeland has been marked with increasing co-operation- on the part of Great Britain and the Arab population, and that the Zionists already are negotiating with the Palestine Government for all available lands for colonisation by Jews.
