CANTERBURY PARK T.C.
I « TO-MORROW'S PROGRAMME. The Canterbury Park Trotting Club will open its summer fixture at Addington to-morrow, and providing the weather is good, the meeting should be one of the most successful during the last twelve months. The fields in the various events are strong enough numerically to provide the best class of racing, and in the principal events, class is particularly well represented. The Canterbury Park Club is wideawake to its responsibilities to the g«nenil public, and in charging only one shilling admission to the course, is going the right way to ensuring a record attendance. With fine weather, the course should be in ideal condition for fast times,-and with such good class horses engaged in the principal event it will not be surprising to see another record go by the board. Racing «i!l commence at 11.30 a.m., and with the excellent transport provided by the Christchurch Tramway Board, patrons will be enabled to reach the course with alacrity and still be in Christchurch at the, conclusion of the races in reasonable time. In the Introductory Handicap, the chances of Rose Audo cannot be ignored after her good display at the New Brighton Meeting, and the most likely of the others to cause her worry appears to be Nourmahal and Bonwood, the latter of whom has been penalised for a meritorious win at the Ashburton Meeting on Boxing Day. A huge field is carded for the Templeton Handicap, and Coleno Pointer is one of those engaged. She has been penalised 24 yards for winning at Ashburton, but this win was accomplished in such ridiculously easy fashion that she is bound to be well supported in this race. She is a better_ class mare than is generally seen racing in this company. Holly Bell was giving Colene Pointer 36 yards start at Ashburton, but even with 12 yards in her favour, she can have little chance of reversing the positions. Bob Logan and Great Earl are two of the most likely engaged in this race, which should provide a sterling contest. In the Canterbury Handicap for 4.31 class horses, the field is big enough to provide a good race, and the ten Engaged, would do credit in any field. Black Admiral, on his good showing at the Wellington Meeting, should be well supported, for he is a good stayer. Peter Bingen has shown excellent form by winning the Gold Cup at Wellington, and handicapped on 4.28, must be given a royal chance. He will be coupled with Logan Chief, who, on 4.27, has been treated better than For a long time past. The back markers, Waitaki Girl, Onyx, and Sheik, have a big ohstaclo in front of them, and with ordinary luck in the running, Sheik may prove most profitable to follow. Homer is a smart saddle horse, and even with a handicap of 84 yards in the Lyttelton Handicap, must be considered dangerous, while of the others, Pretty Pointer and Grey Cloud may be the best.
The unhoppled trotters in the Stewards' Handicap, though not representing the best class, are useful, and though Dtike Bingen does not stay well he has an advantage in the handicap that may assist him at the finish. Young Carbine and Frisco Beau look most likely of- the others. There are a number of smart sprinters engaged in the Islington Handicap and of the number, Becky Logan is also engaged in the principal two mile race. Dillon Wilkes on 36 yards, Taurekareka on 24 yards, and Bientloo on 12 yards, look likely to fight out the finish, while in the Railway Handicap, Bingen Lad, Final McKinney, and Tarzan may be the hardest to dispose of.
They day's racing will conclude with the Au Revoir Handicap, of one mile and in this race several smart sprinters are engaged. Harold Thorpe on 12 yards has an undoubted chance, while Rufine, Deanwood, and Berenice must also be considered.
