' Senator Borah, chairman of the Senate Foreign Kelations Committee, ' in a formal statement to-day, said he was satisfied that as far as the official reports showed, the activities of the United States Naval forces at Nicaragua were confined strictly to the protection of American life and property. He stated: "I am in favour of withdrawing our forces ] from Nicaragua just as soon as it is ascertained that Americans are reasonably safe." [The Liberal revolution in Nicaragua, led by General Boncada, has been going on sporadically since August. In _ September it assumed a. rather sanguinary character, and Liberals wrecked with shells the house of the United States Collector of Customs at El Bluff, near Blueflelds. Two United States cruisers were ordered to the spot, and there are now six war vessels in Nicaraguan waters. On August '2sth General Chaniarro, commanding the Conservatives, ■charged the Mexicans with gun-fun-ning to assist the Liberals. Senator Borah's statement is'evidently intended to indicate that the United States will not take any action against Mexico, diplomatic relations between these countries being somewhat delicate.]
