Nominations for tho Otaki Maori Racing Club's Winter Meeting and for the Dunedin Jot-key Clubs Winter Meeting close to-morrow.

Acceptances for the Oamaru T.C.'s "Winter Meeting close on Monday at

Goosestep, Viewpoint, Steel Bar, Bitters, and Marble Bar arrived at Lyttolton yesterday morning from Wellington to fulfil engagements at southern meetings. Prince Ferouz appears in tho nominations for tho hurdle events at the Ashburton County Racing Club's Autumn Meeting on May 20th and 21st, and will undergo his schooling education on the Riccarton track. The yearling colt by Absurd—Black Ada, owned by Mr R. A. McKenzie, is said to give great promise, and is described as one of the finest youngsters seen in Woodville for some years. It is understood that an' offer of 1500 guineas was recently refused for this colt, who is a half brother to such good performers as Clarinda, Olandhu, and Piuthair. Charlatan will be produced in tho Kgraont Steeplechase 'at Hawera today, and is expected to make a favourable impression over two and a half miles. In regard to future engagements, Oharlatan is set to give Llewellyn 91b in the Wanganui Steeplechase, while in the Great Northern Steeplechase the concession is the other way round, to the extent of 101b, or a difference of 131b between tho two handicaps. The Wanganui rare is run over three miles, while the Great Northern is three . miles and threequarters, which may account in part for the disparity, tlie Auckland official treating Charlatan as a non-stayer. On behalf of an Australian purchaser, an offer of £ISOO was made in CJiristchurch yesterday. for Tommy Dtadd, but was refused by his Invercorgill owner. •

Omahu is giving every promise in his schooling essays at Wanganui, and on Tuesday last lje was responsible for a finished exhibition over the steeplechase country, His stable mate, Bonibrook, is also schooling well. When' the New Zealand-bred Kuhio won the third division of the Flying Handicap at'Rosebery (N.S.W.) on April 28th, he carried 7.11, and beat the favourite, Silent Queen, by half a head, covering the six furlongs in 1.13 It 4, Kuhio was one of the outsiders of the geld. J, H. Jefferd, private trainer to Mr A. B. Williams, has at present in hand a younger full brother to Star Stranger. When the time comes for him to figure on the racing track, he will do sq under the cognomen of Star God. Ha was purchased, by Mr Williams from his breeder, Mr A. J. Toxward, who also bred Star Stranger, arid there is a contingency attached to the sale, which holds good until the end of July, 1928.

Is the'once mighty Beau ford able to win another race? His owner, Mr W. H. Mackay, evidently thinks that he is. Beauford is. 10 years of ago, and his last success was in the Cameron

Stakes, a w.f.a. race, at Newcastle, in the spring of 1923. A week or two later he broke down in the Hill Stakes at the Rosehill Spring Meeting, run ai Randwick. Possibly fired by the successes of Gloaming in his ninth year, Beauford was brought to the city by S:' Killick last autumn, but ho could not win, though at his first try ho ran a creditable second to Valiant" in the Railway Handicap at Rosehill, when seven furlongs was run 'in 1.25 J. Clearly then, M 6 WJ >s not quite the/ old Beauford, and in two more vain attempts during the season he ran ingloriously. Now handled by • I* H. Andrews, he is having another shot. Rising 10 years, as ho is, it is inevitable that his legs have lost the elasticity of youth, and the former champion can scarcely be expected to stimd a severe campaign. Whije ho may win ft race,' thousands who four tows ago cheered his wonderful gallops against Eurythmic and Gloaming, will grieve to see him persevered with if it is found that he can no longer go tho pace set by. his younger rivals. , The West Coast-owned and trained pacer Trimmer arrived yesterday from Blenheim, where he registered a first and a second at the Marlborough R.C.'s Autnmu. Meeting. Tho. Harold Dillon gelding will remain at headquarters for a few days and then go south to assist at the Oamaru T.O.'s Winter MeetM>*< ' ...
