GENERAL COMMITTEE MEETING

The Royal National Agricultural. and Industrial Association of Queensland wroteih appreciation of the hospitality extended to a member of its Council,' Mr W, MV. Charles, on his brief visit to- Christchurch, and stated that it was hoped to reciprocate the.Association's kindness when any of its members visited Brisbane. , . The Leicester Sheep Breeders' Association wrote that a copy of the 1926 Flock Book would be forwarded, when ready; two medals (the smaller one for' woaring by the shepherd) were being forwarded for competition at this year's Metropolitan Show. ' It was decided to write and thank the Association. The New Zealand Sheep Breeders Association (South Island) wrote that ft meeting of Southdown eheepbreeders had decided to ask the Association to endeavour to obtain fuller ir.formation regarding the judgmg of the Meat Board's prizes for fat lambs at the recent' Royal Show. • • ■ _ , Mr Deans explained that particulars similar to those given in the Association's wool and muttoi- competitions were dceired; Tho.,-, letter was referred i-o the Sheep Committee. », „n Mr H. Chapman, Traffic Manager, N.Z.R., wrote that at the Ram, and Ewe Fair .on March 18th and 19th, tho work of-loading stock was hampered by the dilapidated condition of tho two boards for unloading sheep from the top decks of sheep waggons. The three portable races provided for discharging sheep are heavy and cumbersome, and it was stated that stock agents preferred the ordinary boaTds. He asked that the matter should be gono into, with a view to providing a better class of race and boards, as the alterations would be welcomed by the agents, and would facilitate the discharge of the stock. \ Tha letter was referred to the Transport, Committee. . Mr Deans submitted the report of the Finance Committee, which recommended that the miniature cups awarded to winners of challenge cups at last year's show be engraved with the title of the challenge cup and the winner's name, at an estimated cost of-£lO or £l2.
The report was adopted. • Mr A. J. Jones, New. Zealand Farmers' Co-operative Association, Christchurch, was elected a member of the Association. decided to call a special general meeting of the Association for June 9th to consider a motion proposing to increase tho subscription of life members to £2O.
At the close of the meeting of the General Committee. Mr h. C. Walker, of Islington, gave tfi address on the freight, question, and with the revolution in land and sea. transport brought about by the Diesel engine.' He showed the manner in which freight rites could be reduced to the advantage of the primary and secondary producers. The address was illustrated with lantern views. Mr Walker answered a number of questions, and was accorded a vote of thanks.
