POLLARD—MONK. s • A quiet but pretty wedding was 'solemnised by the Rev. Mr Slade, at the Methodist church, Kaiapoi, recently, when Rita May, only 'daughter of E. J. Monk, Kaiapoi, was married to Montague, second sou of E. J. Pollard, Kaiapoi. The bride, who entered the church with her father, wore a frock of au-tumn-shaded repp cloth, with hat to match. She carried a bouquet of autumn shades which toned with her frock.

She. was attended by Miss Mary Fowler as bridesmaid. She wore a frock of saxe blue repp, with gold trimmings, and hat to match, and carried a bouquet to tone with her dress. Mr Ray Monk acted as best man. After the ceremony, a reception was held at the home of the bride's parents, where about fifty guests were entertained. Mi's Monk, who received the guests, wore a pretty frock of black and white jersey silk, and hat to match. She carried a beautiful bouquet of. red roses and maidenhair fern. Later Mr and Mrs Pollard left by car on their honeymoon, and will make their future homovin'Rangiora.

Dating from the reign of Queen Elieabth, a silver salt-eellar, recently acquired by the British Museum, is regarded as one of the finest pieces of old silver in existence.'

DEBUTANTES' DANCE. At the Winter Garden last, night Mr and Mrs J. U.. Macdpnald (Fendalton) entertained a number of their friends at a delightful dance given in honour of the debut of their only daughter, Betty. The hostess wore a graceful gown of black georgette beaded with jet beads, and the fortunate debutante, who has just attained to the dignity of a ''grown-up" wore a.charming frock of white georgette, beaded all over in crystal beads. She carried a bouquet of pastel-tinted flowers, the gift of Mrs B. B. Wood: ' The other debutantes who made their bow to adult society under such .pleasant circumstances were Miss Nan Salmond, Miss Joan Huie, and "Miss. Jean Newton. Miss Salmond wore a dainty frock of' ivory brocaded crepe de chine with fluted inset panels of georgette in the skirt. Miss Joan Huie's pretty I frock of brocaded silver tissue had a plain tunic bodice and flared skirt, while the swathed girdle was finished with a diamente buckle. She carried a bouquet of shaded pink begonias. Miss Jean Newton wore'shell-pink georgette embroidered with pearl beads.
