LYTTELTON SEAT.
ELECTION PETITION COSTS. CANVASS FOR SUBSCRIPTIONS. Since the announcement was made that Mr M. E. Lyons, wlio unsuccessfully defended tho petition lodged against his election to Parliament as member for Lyttelton, is called upon to meet a bill of costs of £463 in connexion with the hearing of/ the petition by the Electoral Court, the opinion has been expressed' by . many that it would be unfair to expect Mr Lyons to foot the bill. Very many also have expressed admiration for the excellent fight put up by Mr Lyons on behalf of the Reform Party. It will be gratifying news to all Mr Lyons's well-wishers that they are to be given an opportunity to show, in a tangible manner, their appreciation of Mr Lyons's efforts to win, Lyttelton for Reform. Mr H. G. Livingstone, the secretary of the 'Reform organisation in North Canterbury, when the matter of Air Lyons's bill of costs was mentioned to him by, a representative of "The Press" yesterday, said:—"The Reform organisation is going to make an endeavour to raise sufficient tnoney to meet the bill of costs, and any subscriptions forwarded to the secretary of the organisation, Box, 218. Christohurch, will be duly acknowledged." . Mr Livingstone added that a beginning . would be ma.de to-day to canvass for subscriptions among Reform supporters, and those who wished to show their appreciation of Mr Lyons's good fight for Lyttelton. BOTH ENTITLED TO SALARY.
(PBISS ASSOCIATION MMBBAM.) WELLINGTON, April 6. The Crown Law Office has decided that both Mr James McCombs and Mr M. E. Lyons are entitled to receive Parliamentary honoraria as from the date of the v General Elections, Mr Lyons's honorarium to <»ase at the date of the Electoral Court's decision.
