EASTER TOURNAMENT. \ CLOSE WIN FOR LINWOOD. Wet weather spoilt the concluding stages of the C'hristchurch howling Centre's Easter rinks tournament which were entered upon at the Edgeware green yesterday. The second round of the post-sectional games was played. The green was heavy, and the bowls greasy through the intermittent drizzle, which commenced at about 10 a.m. There was a large attendance of interested spectators. The morning broke overcast, and thero was a short shower at about lu o'clock, and further light rain fell during the morning. Karly in the afternoon playhad to be postponed for half an hour on account of another sharp shower. The standard of play was high, especially in the games between \V. Efford (Edgeware) - and Dr. Marks (United), and J. "VVoolf (Christchnrch) and W. Henley (Snmner). Both games were very even. Playing against S. I'errin (Edgeware), H. B. Oakey (St. Albans) secured a walk-over, and H. C. Wilson (Linwood) defeated IJ. Main (Sumner) by a big margin. All of yesterday's games consisted of 21 heads. The tournament was won by Linwood on the decision of the umpire, Mr J. A. Hayman who used a measure by lamp-light to decide on the winning team. Play finished at about 6.15 p.m. in almost pitch darkness, and it was practically impossible to see the bowl until it reached the head. The "click" was the only intimation the spectators had that a bowl had been loosed. During the last quarter of an hour directions were given byplacing a lighted match on the kitty. The final game was very close, the scores ending 18-17 in favour of Linwood against Sumner. Results. The results are as follows: — Second Round. St. Albans (P. A. Bush, P. 0. Malpas, E A. Smith, H. B. Oakey) -37 v. Edgeware (J. B. Borthwick, A. M. Mollison, W. Ashby, 'St Albans opened with a five, and in the second head Edgeware replied with a four. In the next two heads a three and a four were scored by St. Albans. Of tho remaining seventeen heads eleven were won by St Albans, who finished with a margin of nin C™f(P. East, B. Grant, P. Mat.on, W Efford) 19 v. United G. C. Jones, H. B Watson, D. McKenzie, Dr. J. D. Marks) opened with a two in the first head and followed up with a single in the next. At the sixth head the scores were equal (4. points), the eighth head (5 noints) the fourteenth head (11 points), and the sixteenth head (12 points). After ?he seventeenth head Edgeware got into.the lead again, but after tho nineteenth head United had a lead of one point. Edgeware secured tho last two heads, scoring a two and a threo, and a margin of four points. Linwood (T. Hilson, A. Archer, A. Kinvig, H C Wilson) 20 v. Sumner (A. Topping, H Bates, J. Illingworth, B. Main) 10. . Linwood scored in twelve of the twenty heads played, and had a good lead all the wav through. • At the end of the twelfth head the scores were 16-4 in favour of Linwood.
