MASONIC INSTITUTE.
v KIRKPATRICK HOME OPENED. (press association tbmsgbah.) NELSON, April 6. The Kirkpatrick Masonic Institute (formerly the residence of the late Mr S. Kirkpatrick) was officially opened by R.W. Bro. Jesse Steer, District Grand Master, Westland and Nelson (E.G.). chairman of the Board of Governors, in the presence of a large and representative attendance of the Masonic fi eternity. Bro. Steer explained that the home was, by the .terms expressed in the will of the late esteemed brother, Samuel Kirkpatrick, to be founded on similar lines, to the Royal Masonio Institute for Girls in England. "The Masonic Society is not a friendly society, benevolent or charitable institution, but it unfortunately happens through circumstances over which we have no control: of sickness, If.ng illness, and death, that children are left fatherless, and in more or less precarious and destitute circumstances. Prother Kirkpatrick, realising this, and with the liberal hospitnlity which had characterised his actions'to those dependent upon him, has loft the residue of his estate, approximately- £50,000, together with this beautiful home, with its pleasant surroundings, for the hous-. injr and education of girls left in this unfortunate position,"
