Athletics .... 4 7 Iloxing ... 4 1 Tennis ... 0 Shooting Debating ... 1 1 Totals 15 8.4 8 The final points for the Athletic Shield were:—Victoria 20 points, Otago 14 points, Canterbury 8 points, Auckland nil. In the Haslam Shield, Auckland and Otago scored two points each. For the highest scores in individual practices, Auckland were finally adjudged winners. Tenuis. The Canterbury tennis team was avowed a strong one, but the most sanguine Canterbury supporters never dared to hope that it would annex all five events. All the Canterbury team played up to form, and the doubles combinations showed judicious selection. In most of the events there was no serious opposition. -All but one event were decided in two sets.

A. B. Loughnan showed commendable form, and bis wonderful smashing and clever placings at times completely nonplussed his opponents. W. R. Robinson (Canterbury) retained his title as singles champion, defeating R. McL. Ferkins (Wellington) in two straight sets. Robinson was playing well, and had no difficulty in gaining tho verdict. His driving was a feature of the game. With Loughnan in the finals of the men's doubles against Fulton and Watson (Otago) he was not so good. Loughnan was playing well, and gave a glimpse of his quality as a doubles player. After losing the first set 6-3, the Canterbury pair brightened up, and won the next two sets comfortably..

Miss E. Partridge (C.U.C.) won the, ladies' singles in the best style. She was in a class of her own, playing beautifully crisp tennis, especially in the final. Miss Miller (Auckland) was no match for her.

In the combined doubles both the Canterbury pairs, Robinson and Miss Lowden, and Eoughnan and Miss Partridge, came through to the final.

The final of the ladies' doubles between Misses E. Miller and L. Mueller (Auckland) and Misses E. Partridge and L. Sauuders was a long-drawn-out game. The Canterbury pair were faster, and Miss Saunders especially was steady. Miss Partridge's overhead work and placing were at times brilliant, and the Canterbury pair had their opponents on the defensive. The Aucklanders were playing the lob game, which did not prevail against Miss Partridge's smashing tactics. The Auckland pair never looked dangerous. Misses Partridge and Saunders ran out winners in two straight sets. Detailed results were as follows: MEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP SINGLES. Present Champion: W. R.Robertson (C.U.C.). Semi-Finals. W., R.
