RUNAWAY MOTOR-CYCLE.
MACHINE DASHES INTO CROWD. (ran* tntoeuttoii tsunauc.) TAUMARUNCI, April «. An exciting runaway occurred on the Wnihi Beach on Sunday, in which a woman and a child had a narrow escape from being killed. Robert Mitchell, a Public Works Department employee, was proceeding on his motor-cycle from the main Beach road on to the sand, when his back wheel struck a large stone, the; impact jolting the back lever out. Immediately the cycle swerved, reared up on the back wheel, and dashed with a terrifio speed in the direction of a group of holiday-makers. Seeing that the machine had run amock the crowd scattered in all directions. A married woman, Mrs J. J. Fox. was knocked down, and the year-old daughter of Claud Capper also bumped orer. Her life was saved ,by tie rider throwing the machine on its side just before the impact occurred. Mitchell was pinned beneath the machine and suffei-ed severe injuries to on) foot. The injuries of all the parties were attended to by a doctor who happened to be on the beach.
